3rd Place Kitchen
Designer: Allison Marie Bradshaw
Lakeland College
Vermilion, Ab., Canada
Allison’s inspiration for the Lamberts’
kitchen was art nouveau. The art nouveau
style reflects the 1880 style popular when
the house was originally built. She felt
that the uniqueness of her design was a great asset.
With the use of wrought iron and arches, this
was “a kitchen that not too many people would
have.” The placement of the arch, in the entryway,
makes it the focal point of the kitchen. The subtle
wrought iron detail in the upper cabinets adds to
the architectural style.
Professional appliances were chosen to make
entertaining easier, such as a 48” range. The
dishwashing area and dish storage were
separated from the cooking area. This allows
Carmen to prepare while others clean up. The
island is an eating area, homework area and
also keeps the company out of the workspace.
Drawer dishwashers and a recycling center
were included as well, to ease with food preparation
and cleanup while entertaining.
Allison used mostly light colors with dark accents
to lighten the space and give it a more
open feel. With the natural materials chosen,
and the wrought iron accents, she created a
kitchen that maintains the art nouveau style
she had strived for.
