Suchin Coutre, this year’s winning Kitchen
Designer based her design on an Italian
theme. “The style is combined traditional
classic feel and contemporary relaxation
together. ” The use of bold colors and a simple
look help to create a sleek, trendy design for the
Lambert’s kitchen.
The focus was to create a “beautiful, warm family
oriented kitchen.” Most Italian families cook and
eat together. “Grapes, tomatoes, and olives are
considered the trinity of Italian cooking.” The
design theme incorporated the three items and
their related colors to maintain the Italian feel of
the kitchen. Her Italian kitchen features a big island
for entertaining and pottery display. The open shelf
and glass displays also lend themselves to an Italian
custom of gathering family and friends in a big,
warm room for cooking and entertaining. The use
of ceramic tile is also a part of Italian tradition.
The professional range, sink and refrigerator were
placed close together to avoid interference in
the work zone. The cabinets are equipped with
rollout and pullout accessories to maximize space.
Suchin was able to provide Carmen and David
with more open work space, as they felt that their
kitchen was too cramped.
Kitchen components in Italy tend to be furniture.
Therefore, the granite table is built-in and looks like
furniture. The table arrangement provides for a
relaxed seating and a place for Carmen to entertain
her company. A beautiful arch separates the kitchen
from the living areas, and provides more open
space. This open design allows Carmen and David
to entertain in a kitchen that is warm and inviting.
