Participating in NKBA Seminars and Courses via Web-Based Training (WBT) FAQ:

Are the sessions internet based?

Yes. Participants will need a high speed internet connection to participate.

Can I sign in at any time like other on-line courses?

No. Typically on-line courses like the ones we offer through Century College are referred to as "asynchronous", i.e. you do not have to be on the system at any particular time as long as you fulfill the requirements given for each week's session. Our web-based seminars and courses are referred to as "synchronous", i.e. the presenter and participants are "in sync" with each other. They are all on-line at the same time.

Is there anything special that I have to do before the session?

Yes. The first time you attend one of our WBT sessions, our software provider (WebEx) will download software onto your machine. You can save time and ensure you are not delayed getting into your session by downloading this software in advance.

  • Go to https://nkba.webex.com.
  • Click on "Training Manager" on the bar under the NKBA logo.
  • Click "Training Manager" under Set-Up on the left side of your screen.
  • Read the message.
  • Press "Set-Up." Please note that this can take from a few minutes to 30 or more minutes, depending on your system. Please do this well before the scheduled meeting.

This only has to be done once. You may require authorization from your IT Department to download this software.

Is there anything special that I should do during the session?

To improve response time during a session, it is recommended that you close all other applications running on your system at that time.

How do I optimize firewall and proxy settings for use with WebEx services?

  • Verify that the HTTP port 80 and/or TCP/UDP port 1270 are opened for both incoming and outgoing traffic (Port 443 is used for SSL encrypted meetings).
  • ActiveX and/or JavaScript will need to be allowed through the firewall (web browsers should also be configured to not restrict these as well).
  • For proxy servers, we ask that WebEx sites are not cached (content or IP-path). It may be necessary to create an exception list for WebEx sites on the firewall or proxy to properly use WebEx services. In most cases, the IP Range that can be used to add an exception for the firewall or proxy is 64.68.96.0-64.68.127.255.
  • Contact your Network Administrator for assistance.

Will I receive a Completion Certificate for attending the session?

Yes. You will be able to download it at the end of the session.

Will there be an evaluation/comment form at the end of the session?

Yes. You will be able to download it at the end of the session. We ask that you complete this form at your leisure after the session/course and email it to the address that will be provided to you. We will use this information to improve our offerings, to plan other offerings, and to schedule future offerings.

Can I change the NKBA.WebEx website to reflect my own time zone?

Yes. Go to https://nkba.webex.com. On the welcome screen, you will see "English: Eastern...: Click on this. A screen will appear that will allow you to "set your preferences for this web site." You can change the time zone to reflect your time zone. Please note that this will change the times for our web-based seminars and courses ONLY on this site. Times on the main NKBA website will still be expressed in Eastern times.

Can I ask questions during web-based seminars and courses?

Yes. Most presenters will ask that you "raise your hand" just as you would in a classroom setting. To do this over the web, you would click on an icon that looks like a hand at the bottom of the participants panel on the right side of your screen. This will cause a hand to appear next to your name where the presenter can see it. When the presenter calls on you, you can speak directly to him/her over your phone connection. Like in a classroom, please speak up so everyone in the session can hear you. After your question has been answered, you "lower your hand" by clicking again on the hand icon.
