YOU'RE INVITED!

NKBA Presentation and Tours of Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinets

Learn about the 3 "P's" of a

Presentation

You've got the design and it meets all of your client's needs, and it's within budget and time frame.  So how do you convey all this fabulous-ness to your client without falling in to a puddle of sweat or having a panic attack?  Conquering this simple but #1 fear (speaking in public) is crucial to the success of your business and the success of your design to help your clients.

 Course Objectives:
  • Attendees will be able to identify the 3 "P's" of a presentation.
  • The importance of knowing your audience and their actual needs, and how your design address these needs (feature/benefit) to overcome objections.
  • And finally, how to incorporate props and technology into your presentation to enhance rather than detract for a successful sale/outcome.

About the Speaker:

DeAnna Radaj, Eco-Shui designer & creator of DesignLEAN

She is an "Eco-Shui" designer/rehab-er who helps those looking to lead a more healthy, balanced & proactive lifestyle.  Unlike other interior designers, "flippers" or Feng Shui practitioners (besides a specialized focus on BEDROOMS & OFFICES), DeAnna integrates the Western (eco-friendly, universal, sustainable) & Eastern (Feng Shui) design principles & techniques, combined with goal-setting (12+ years in corporate before starting Bante Design LLC & creating DesignLEAN) & clutter-busting exercises to create healthy & supportive indoor environments.  Spaces that reflect the lifestyle & goals of her clients, as well as helping them "design the life of their dreams".

Designing spaces that are not only beautiful and comfortable, but also bring out the client's personality, is her design philosophy.  She states that she is in the business of "improving the relationship that you have with your home"...so if you're ready to divorce your space, CONTACT US for some Design Counseling!  She promises that no matter what, you'll have as "healthy, efficient, productive & supportive space" as she can design for you (with your budget & time considerations) for you to start living the life of your dreams.

Dear Lisa,

Learn about Design & Color
 Trends for 2017
The state of color has never been more restless.  New spirituality, cultural flux, feisty self-expression & soulful nostalgia are combining to paint an emerging portrait of our shared future.
Paint 101:  Today's architectural paint and coating products do so much more than protect a substrate and provide color!  Recent technological advancements have produced coatings that can also solve problems for commercial and residential interiors and exteriors.  Designing a multi-family apartment home?  Consider a coating with odor-eliminating technology that can help keep a unit smelling as fresh as move-in day.  Looking for an interior paint system for a hospital?  Learn how a revolutionary microbicidal paint can offer healthcare facilities an important new tool to help combat certain bacteria that can cause hospital acquired infections.  This course will provide you with the fundamentals of different paint systems and the latest technologies so that you can specify coatings that will provide the best outcome for your client.
Course Objectives:
 *   Review a specification decision tree to identify the best paint system for your project/application
*   Learn the importance of selecting the right primer by understanding the role that a primer plays in        the long-term outcome of the topcoat
 *   Learn the performance attributes and recommended applications for the five most common types        of architectural topcoats
*   Be able to identify different sheen's and know when to use each one
*   Discuss the special features of today's most advanced coatings, and consider applications for           each technology
*   Understand VOCs, regulations and environmental standards so that you can specify products that       meet or exceed environmental standards

Topic Lighting the Kitchen and Bath After the Sun Goes Down (0.1CEU)  This was one of the highest rated sessions for KBIS 2015!

Speaker:  Doug Walter, AIA

Track: Design & Inspiration

The primary source of illumination in any kitchen and bath should be natural daylight.  However, the sun doesn't shine all day and night long, so we need to provide ample electric lighting to keep illumination levels high at all times.  Visual acuity declines with age, so standard IES recommended foot-candle levels should probably be as much as doubled, according to experts.  This recommendation can run up against energy regulations, and limits on watts per square foot.  Fortunately, LED lighting is finally "ready for prime time" and will almost certainly take over the market within a few years.  Since LED's are already about 5x more efficient than incandescent, it is quite possible to increase light levels and lower energy consumption at the same time.  According to the Dept. of Energy, efficiencies for LED's should double by 2020.  Learn how to develop a lighting plan for your kitchens and baths that responds to client needs and budget, and gives them maximum adjustability to set the scene to what they need at that moment.  See what other, award-winning designers have accomplished around the country in better-lit kitchens and baths, and take away tips you can use back home.

Learning Objectives:

Discuss key principles of layering lighting

Evaluate new LED light sources in comparison with tried-and-true fluorescent and halogen/incandescent lamps.

Apply the principles of good lighting to whatever room you are designing

 About the Speaker:

Andrew Paxton is a shareholder with CGA Law Firm and heads the Corporate and Business Transaction department. He concentrates his practice in business law, real estate and taxation with a particular focus on intellectual property, technology and emerging business matters. Presentation from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The presentation will focus on the importance of developing a contract outlining the rights and duties of both the designer and the client BEFORE the design process begins, in an easy to understand format that won't scare clients away with excessive legalese. Through a series of hypothetical situations, the presenters will demonstrate how a properly written design contract can save you time and money and avoiding disputes and eliminating costly collection actions!

Looking forward to seeing you there and enjoying some great heavy hors d'oeuvres while learning how to better prepare design contracts!

“Creating Kitchens for Clients Who Enjoy Entertaining”“Creating Kitchens for Clients Who Enjoy Entertaining”Thu, Sep 18, 2014 to Thu, Sep 18, 2014

    NKBA Susquehanna Valley Event!

“Creating Kitchens for Clients Who Enjoy Entertaining”

The Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the NKBA is proud to bring you this informative seminar on “Creating Kitchens for Clients Who Enjoy Entertaining”  presented by Briana Simmons from the Whirlpool Corporation.

In addition to a well-organized kitchen space serving the cook, rooms today are designed to create a space for entertaining. Sometimes, special spaces are planned for gala parties followed by a catered meal. For other families, a small kitchen may be transformed into a multi-tasking center ready to serve as a cooking center, as well as featuring additional areas for beverage service. Or, a special area might be created for visitors to gather around while the chef takes center stage. Regardless of the type of entertaining space, kitchen planners need to ask more questions to learn what the prospective client really means when they say, “We entertain in our kitchen.” The specialist must also be familiar with unique appliances designed to make entertaining easy for the hostess, and have a good grasp of how much seating and standing space is required for people to comfortably gather together in.

During this program, Briana Simmons will identify four specific types of entertaining spaces, discuss special purpose appliances available to facilitate entertaining, and list special requirements for both standing and seated areas in and around the entertaining sector of the new kitchen.

Briana Simmons is currently a Regional Trainer for Whirlpool
Corporation, where she is responsible for training accounts on all of the Whirlpool Corporation Brands, which include Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid and Jenn-Air.
