Modern Materials for Contemporary DesignModern Materials for Contemporary DesignThu, Aug 17, 2017 @ 6:30 PM to Thu, Aug 17, 2017 @ 8:00 PM

Welcome Back! Hope your summer was great! Join us as we start our fall education series with Modern Materials for Contemporary Design. A ceu presentation at Mosby Building Arts. At this presentation we are going to look at three contemporary high-end materials: aluminum, glass, and high gloss acrylic.

We will review the inherent qualities of each, look at how each might be incorporated into your designs, and review the design options of each application and how to specify these materials into your projects.

We will also discuss the variety of building typologies in which these materials can be utilized and look at a few case studies that have incorporated these materials in a comprehensive manner to achieve a truly dramatic contemporary design.

Downtown History and Architecture ExtravaganzaDowntown History and Architecture ExtravaganzaTue, May 16, 2017 @ 4:30 PM

Join us this spring as we continue our exploration of St. Louis! This event gives a sweeping, entertaining overview of the city’s intricate history and beautiful architecture--and we'll find it all within the core of Downtown. Together, we will time travel through St. Louis, moving through Downtown when it was a colonial fur trading village, through the booming Gilded Age, and on to the misguided urban planning choices of the mid 20th century.  Oh, and the Arch!  Don’t forget about the Arch! Meet at the center of Citygarden (801 Market St, St. Louis, MO 63101) at 4:30 on Tuesday May 16 and join us afterwards around 6:30 for networking at Baileys Range 920 Olive St, St. Louis, MO 63101

Professional Photographer - Be One (or Hire One) to Increase Sales

You put tons of effort into making great projects, but does your business employ photography that best represents its high quality? Do your images compare to those in national design magazines? In this two-for-one program you’ll learn what to look for when hiring a pro AND how to create striking architectural photographs on your own and increase your bottom line. Hiring a professional often nets the best results - but not always. Architectural photography is not like any other. Knowing what will draw the viewer’s eye to what you want them to see, namely, your work, is critical. You’ll see how some photographers get it wrong, and how to avoid those mistakes. Want to try it on your own? Learn from a designer who is also a professional photographer. With some investment you don’t need to be pro to use pro tricks. You’ll learn about good camera and lens combinations, simple lighting tricks, where to place your camera, what to focus on, post processing and compositing multiple images, and much more. See examples at www.adamgibson.com.

We live in the internet age of visual stimulation and along with project photos, a professional headshot is often your first impression. The use of photo profiles has become as prevelant as email addresses, and your best clients want to deal with people, not companies. Our chapter has teamed up with Adam Gibson, to provide the opportunity for you to have a professional headshot taken at this event. Sign up with Eventbrite to reserve your spot! This spring, we will focus on an architecturally beautiful and mostly residential St. Louis
neighborhood, which evolved in the years leading up to, during, and just after the 1904
World's Fair in Forest Park when wealthy landowners began to subdivide their property
for exclusive residential development and where many of St. Louis' most successful
business tycoons commissioned elegant homes in gated places. We'll take a look at some
of these, window shop along Euclid Avenue, and hear the haunted history of Hortense
Place pausing at the CWE's literary corner - Euclid & McPherson - where St. Louis
authors, T.S. Eliot, Sara Teasdale and Tennessee Williams are commemorated.

A stop at Jenni's Splendid Ice Creams is optional.
