The CNY Chapter is proud to announce that we will be hosting Denise Butchko of Butchko Company in Chicago IL.  Denise is a highly respected Closet Designer and KBIS Presenter.

Topic Closet Design Beyond Measure

Walking through a Walk In Closet Design -

In this presentation – you’re going to “walk through” the process of designing and selling a walk in closet – because if you've already sold the bathroom renovation, why not do the easiest add-on ever and design the closet space?

As a Registered Storage Designer, and judge for the closet industries' Top Shelf Design Awards, Denise is going to share the thought processes and action steps she goes through in order to effectively design a simple walk in closet space. She’ll also highlight the questions she asks and information she shares that establishes her expertise and allows her to gain the client's trust, so you can do the same. Incorporating closets into your business is the best add-on product EVER! It's fun and profitable and can be easy if you know what you're doing. Denise will teach you that.

Attendees will be able to:

1.Attendees will gain basic design principles when assessing a Walk In Closet space

2.Understand differences between working with closet components versus kitchen cabinets

3.Discuss budgeting options intelligently

Exciting Opportunity!Exciting Opportunity!Sun, May 1, 2016 @ 4:00 PM to Wed, Jun 1, 2016 @ 8:00 PM

Attention NKBA Members.
We have an exciting opportunity that we are looking into but we request your feed back.  I have been in contact with the NKBA Susquehanna and NY Tri - States Chapters.  We are discussing the idea of a joint event held over a few days.
This event would occur in March or April of 2017.  We plan to find a central location so that no one is having to travel an extreme distance.  The idea is to meet the first day mid afternoon.  This evening we would have 2 CEU programs and a dinner.  The following day we would have as many vendors as we can get to present their newest products and to answer any questions we may have. During this day we would also arrange a minimum of 6 CEU programs.  Of course all CEU programs may not interest everyone and that means there will still be people wandering around the vendor booths, much like you may have seen at a KBIS.
The third and final day - We are also going to try and bring in someone to give a 3-4 hour program which qualifies for Certification Education Hours, for those seeking certification.  Of course many of you do not need this event and may leave the night before, or depending on the location enjoy the local attractions. This session would end the event.
Please take 2-3 minutes to complete the survey at the link below.  Your responses are needed to make such an event possible.

We will collect all survey results June 1, 2016, and will inform you all of the results.

Thank You,

Aaron Gould, AKBD

How to Select Kitchen & Bath LightingHow to Select Kitchen & Bath LightingWed, Oct 15, 2014 to Wed, Oct 15, 2014

Presentation Title: How to Select Kitchen & Bath Lighting

Track: Design & Inspiration

Session Approach: Information

Target Audience: Designer; Retailer

It seems simple. Install some lights and you’re done…or maybe not. Lighting comes with a style, a purpose and delivers aesthetic characteristics that all must be considered. In this session, we will look at luminaires from three points of view: aesthetics, function and light characteristics. We will then place those pieces in room settings to show how they can maximize the design and improve the overall usability of the space.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the different design characteristics of a variety of lighting fixtures
  • Understand the assorted functional characteristics of a variety of lighting fixtures
  • Learn the characteristics of light and how they can impact a design and change a space

Presentation Goals:

  • Activity 1: Upon entering the room, attendees will be given a Q&A sheet to fill out. The answers will be used throughout the session.
  • A single page handout will be distributed including these questions.
  • Activity 2: Throughout the session, attendees will be asked to offer opinions and solve lighting challenges for presented rooms
  • A flip chart in the front of the room is requested to record offered ideas
  • Presentation will be supplemented heavily with visuals of lighting products, room settings, room lighting (both good and bad) and explanatory information required to clarify a point
  • PowerPoint slides/Prezi will be used. A projector will be needed to display presentations

Luminaire design characteristics – 10min

Luminaire functional characteristics – 10min

Light characteristics – 10min

Using the three characteristics to maximize the design and space – 20min

Q&A – 5min
