2017 KITCHEN AND BATH DESIGN TRENDS REPORT

Style report

By the very nature of kitchen and bathroom remodeling and construction, trends in our industry don’t change as quickly as fashion or even furniture. Many products that go into kitchens and bathrooms are built to last a generation or more. Yet every year, we see innovative new products emerging and taking off, generating new insights for trend spotters. Since NKBA members are on the cutting edge of kitchen and bathroom design, this survey is useful in identifying emerging trends, such as the big shift from traditional to contemporary, and use of multiple colors and styles in the kitchens. Our members provide the point-of-view of specialists on the front lines, creating beautiful kitchens and bathrooms every day. The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) has tracked kitchen and bath design trends throughout its 52-year existence. A version of this NKBA Design Trends Survey has been in existence since the 1980s, and this iteration tracks trends since 2010. The 2017 report has been expanded and now includes more product detailed findings and verbatims as well as a new section on home technology in kitchens and baths.

NKBA's Economic Indicators Dashboard

Nkba's Economic Indicators Dashboard

We are introducing a new report that we think you’ll find useful; it's a brief table or dashboard highlighting several key economic drivers, specifically eight variables, which capture diverse aspects of the kitchen and bath industry.

In addition to the latest value of each indicator, and its change from the previous release, the dashboard displays a triangle in three colors that summarizes visually the recent trends for each of the drivers. Naturally, “green” is a positive signal indicating that the latest value is improving; “yellow,” as it’s common understood denotes caution because the variable maybe changing direction; and “red” indicates that the variable in question is declining, both in its current value and in relation to the recent past.
