"Spirit of Giving" Holiday Lunch & Donation DriveWed, December 14, 2011 @ 12:00 PM

    NKBA Aloha Chapter
    "Spirit of Giving"
    Holiday Lunch & Donation Drive

    Luncheon Buffet
    Wednesday, December 14, 2011
    12:30 - 2:30 pm
Cost: $40 per person plus 1-3 donation item(s)

from J.R. Ludlow, Chapter Rep and Janna Arrisgado, VP-Programs, NKBA Aloha Chapter

This year has been another tough year for our design community, but for some of Oahu's children, it has been unimaginably difficult.
Janna and I were at Hinano's (VP- Professional Development) one weekend in November, listening to her sister-in-law, Nalani Nahinu talk about her work at COYSA, (Central Oahu Youth Services Association) an emergency youth shelter for physically and emotionally abused youth in Haleiwa.

We listened to her talk about how the shelter has so little to provide for these youth with regards to shampoo, toothpaste and daily necessity-type stuff because all of their money and donations go for food, overhead, and basic needs. The kids have been reduced to washing their clothes with bars of soap in the sinks when the  laundry detergent runs out. Most of these kids are removed from their homes immediately, without the chance to gather anything but an extra change of clothes, because the situation at their homes is so dire.

Both of us had our "A-HA" moment when we thought of what can we do to help and how can we get other people to help with us. Hinano was instrumental in getting her church to help with food drives for COYSA, so we thought what else can we do to help with the other necessities that the shelter needs that aren't getting supplied regularly due to their miniscule budget.

We thought that if we spend less money on a "party" this year and use that to gather basic needs for the shelter, maybe our NKBA members would jump on board.

Please join us at our Holiday Luncheon and help by bringing a donation of 1-3 Costco-sized items to be added into a huge NKBA holiday donation for the shelter. Here is a basic list of what they need:

    Costco sized:
    Landry soap
    Dish Detergent
    Aluminum Foil
    Large Trash Bags
    Sponges/scrubbers

    Shampoo
    Conditioner
    Body wash or soap
    Deodorant
    Toothbrushes
    Toothpaste
    Hand sanitizer
    Tampons/pads

    They can also really use:
    Sheets
    Towels
    Washcloths

Please RSVP by Monday, December 12 to Janna Arrisgado at janna.arrisgado@daltile.com or 808-499-8465

Please let us know how many will be coming from your office and what donation you will be bringing so we can try to fill in any blanks of missing items. Any overage from the cost of the event will be going to purchasing any missing items as well.

If you have any questions or you can not attend but would like to make a donation, please contact J.R. Ludlow at jrldesigns @yahoo.com or 781-7535
